Minister: SH20 Plan Had “No Easy Options”

Transport Minister Steven Joyce says he’s pleased yesterday’s announcement about the SH20 final alignment means those in the community now have more certainty about what will be happening where.
He says he feels for the owners of all affected properties but adds that there were “no easy options.”
“I believe this fine-tuning of the alignment goes further towards easing the concerns of many, while being cost-effective for New Zealand.
“I am expecting the Western Ring Route to be delivered on budget and on time, with construction starting in mid-to-late 2011 and finishing in the 2015/16 financial year.”

Did anyone ask if it will cost more..?

“No easy options”. Doesn’t sound like what he was saying a few months ago.
Sounds like the earlier decision was rushed without proper investigation being undertaken.
Wouldn’t be surprised if this happened with Transmission Gully as well.
