Wgtn Bus Driver Robbed

Wellington’s Lower Hutt Police are investigating the aggravated robbery of a Valley Flyer bus driver this afternoon.

Detective Constable Shaun Broughton of the Lower Hutt CIB says the bus driver was approached by a male at a bus stop on George Street, Stokes Valley, near Chittick Street just after midday.

“The offender presented a knife and demanded cash from the driver, who then handed over a sum of money and the offender ran off up George Street, down an alleyway, opposite Chittick Street.”

He says, “This is a violent offence, which has left the victim shaken. Police want to hear from anyone who was in the vicinity of George and Chittick Streets in Stokes Valley between 11:45am and 12:15pm who may have witnessed the incident or seen anyone suspicious.”

Police also want to hear from a couple of passengers who were on board the bus at the time of the incident.

“We are yet to speak to these witnesses and we’re keen for them to contact us to assist Police with our enquiries.”

POlice gave the description of the offender as being “Polynesian, of solid build, wearing a dark coloured hooded sweatshirt and black shorts.”
