Big Day Out, Mt Smart: How To Get There Bus, Train

Public transport to Big Day Out at Mt Smart on January 21: Full details.
TRAINS

There are special train arrangements. Trains go to the nearby Penrose station (5-10 minutes walk).

Special services will be running from Britomart to Penrose. Passengers travelling on the Eastern Line are best to  transfer on to these from either Britomart or Otahuhu Stations.

Special services will be running specifically to Penrose on the Western line from Henderson. These additional services will stop at all stops to Newmarket and run direct from Newmarket to Penrose. Otherwise on the Western line, get off at Newmarket and catch the train there direct to Penrose.

Those using the direct Britomart/Papakura/or Waitakere to Penrose will pay a return $11 (It’s called a Day Rover). Otherwise normal fares apply.

Note that following the recent problems with the league matches at Eden Park, expect no mercy if you are caught with alcohol on the train or bus! There will also be checks at the Penrose station to make sure you have a ticket. You can buy tickets on the train.

Good to see direct services from the western line, would be a novelty to ride. Pity I’m overseas.

Note this is the first year in a while where the Network has been fully operational while the BDO takes place!

I got on a Kingsland and was told to transfer at Newmarket, which I duly did, to a train at crush levels, only to see the train I was on continue on to the Southern line. The train manager was clearly ill informed.
