Bike Fix It Day

The owners of broken-down bikes are being urged to dust them off and bring them down to Shed 1 101 Halsey Street on Auckland’s Viaduct Harbour on Sunday.

It’s part of the world-wide day of action on climate change.

Organiser Pippa Coom says in garages all over Auckland bikes with loose spokes, rusty chains, dodgy brakes and flat tyres just need a little work to get them roadworthy. A team of volunteers at the Big Bike Fix Up will be making bikes safe and ready for a summer of cycling.

There’ll also be cycling skills training, workshops, activities for kids, leisurely bikes rides and entertainment.

The Big Bike Fix Up is one of 6500 events registered for the global climate change work party.

There are similar events in New Plymouth, Porirua, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin.

The Big Bike Fix up has been made possible with support from the Road Safety Team Auckland City Council, Cycle Action Auckland, Tumeke Cycle Space, Adventure Cycles, T.Whites Bikes, Nextbikes, AvantiPlus Waitakere, Cycle Store, Superloo and Castles Marquee Hire.
