Video: Old Bus Depot Smashed
Demolition began this afternoon on the old New Lynn bus depot, a short time after the officially opening of the new New Lynn transport hub.
Waitakere city council deputy Penny Hulse put her hand up to drive the digger that smashed into the first part of the row of shops that had adjourned the old bus stops, opposite the road from the new station.
Transport minister Steven Joyce, who spoke at the opening, said if he had known this was happening he would have loved to have asked to have been the one in the digger driver’s seat to have a go at demolishing it.

You just know that is asking for a few comments, I’ll get started with:
Of course he would have loved it, he would love nothing more than to destroy things related to PT
Good riddance to the depot. Its only saving grace in more recent years was the super-helpful guy who manned the information kiosk – which closed months ago. Wonder where he went?
Perhaps across the road to the new station?
@ Phil - Was that the guy with the beard? He was there when I was in high school. I assume the new information booths will cater to both trains and buses?
Yes, Andy, the guy with the beard. Doesn’t seem to be across the road at the new place. Maybe he retired. I think if you put him in a route or timetable information contest with the MAXX computer, he’d have won every time!
Hello Folks, I know the gentleman personally, he is now back driving buses out of Swanson Depot.
Penny looked much better in the demolition gear!
she already has my vote for the new council.
