Signal Work For Electric Trains

Auckland’s rail electrification is in the air.

And that’s exciting.

It may be months before we sight any new electric masts and overhead wiring but rail workers are out doing preparation and getting the signals ready - and that at least feels as if electric trains are on the way.

Today they are doing pre-electrification drainage work at Morningside.

    Love the graffiti (NOT!).

Seen nothing quite like this even in London.

Meh, as graffiti goes, this is actually quite arty. Tagging, some idiot just splashing a squiggle across somewhere, is much worse.

its a legal wall u tossers its not tagging

The train art wall around Morningside is fantastic. This is not tagging. See about the artist http://www.askew1.com/2010/02/my-style-journey-part-1/

Well Melbourne’s rail network and stations are absolutely cover in street art. Most of it is commissioned stuff around stations, but further down the lines it is obviously ad-hoc. Still of the same quality though.
I would say there is an inversely proportional relationship between large quality pieces of wall art and the amount of tagging and throw ups. Tags only seem to pop up in places were there aren’t any bombs or murals.

I support more commissioned art around our rail network. It is the lazy single color scrawls that are really ugly.
