Puhinui Connecting Rd Opens

The new Puhinui to Roscommon connecting road in Manukau City opens on Thursday. It will replace the existing on-ramp to SH20 and give motorists a new route to get on to Roscommon Road.

The opening is part of ongoing construction of the SH20-1 Manukau motorway extension project as part of the Western Ring Route.

The connection will provide a southbound link between Puhinui Road and the new Cavendish Interchange and Roscommon Road. Puhinui Road motorists travelling south should turn right at the new interchange and carry on underneath the new motorway to join Roscommon Road.

The layout will enable the final section to be completed between the existing SH20 southbound lanes and the new motorway. When the new motorway lanes open in August, an on-ramp from the connecting road will allow Puhinui Road southbound traffic access to the motorway.

To prepare for the final tie-in work, the existing SH20 southbound lanes between Puhinui Road and Jerry Green Road will close this Thursday and Sunday nights. The NZTA will have signposted detours in place to help direct motorists. If the weather is bad, the work will take place on the next fine night.

“Although we are delivering another benefit for people on this project, we ask them to drive with care through a construction zone for their own safety and for the safety of workers,” says the NZTA’s State Highways Manager for Auckland, Tommy Parker.

The $210M Manukau Extension motorway project is in its final year of construction and is scheduled to be opened progressively from August through to December.

The 4.5 kilometre-long extension has two lanes in each direction and connects the Southern and Southwestern motorways. It will also help ease congestion on local roads around Manukau City centre, such as Wiri Station and Great South Roads.
