Len Brown Supports Trams

Manukau Mayor and super council candidate Len Brown has praised the return of electric trams as a being on the right track for the future of Auckland’s public transport.

“This is the most exciting development for inner-city transport seen in many years,” says Len Brown.

Coming soon!

“These innovative ideas show that with consensus driven leadership and vision progress can be made towards an efficient world-class transport system.

“I can see future options for the development of electric trams across Te Wero Bridge to further down the waterfront or up into the inner city streets.

“I am delighted that tram travel will, once again, be a reality for Aucklanders, in a way that contributes to the development of the waterfront and the success of the Rugby World Cup.

“Congratulations to Mike Lee and the Auckland Regional Council for their success in bringing back transport options for Aucklanders..

    I see you are really keen on the trams Jon (seeing that nice photomanipulation). Well, I’ll cheer it on when we hear a timeline for connecting it to Britomart. Before that, I’ll remain ho-hum.

    @Max Photographed this afternoon! LOL
    Yes I am a big fan. Its done what I hoped - spark a debate about light rail in Auckland.

    Banks is obviously too ‘busy’ to show any sort of support - guess he doesn’t want to have to potentially cough up any money in the future by showing any sort of support now - yet another reason why he has to go.

    seems to be a lot of arse slapping on all these issues at the moment, its all very saying its a great idea in all, but saying and doing are two different things.

    I’m not bagging the guy, but saying stuff like this to woooo voters i reckon… would to know what his knowledge is of trams, and tram systems rather than just saying its a good idea.

    i really think this has just got to be more than a gimmick for the world cup show piece. if it gets off the ground, it can’t be a 1/2 arsed attempt, it needs to be future proof with idea of upgrading and expansion in the next 5-10 and beyond.

    If they can bring back trams in Christchurch and look at the trams in San Francisco.We could do it in Auckland.Like in SFO run the trams from Mechanics Bay via the Viaduct Basin up Hobson St,Pitt St.Karangahape Rd and Down Queen St along Customs Street past the Vector Arena to the Bay.

    I would support it.
