Videos: Onehunga Work Begins
15 weeks until the new Onehunga station opens and the line kicks back into life after 38 years.
Construction of the station at Onehunga has started and carries through to July.
Here are videos and close up photos of the work below.
Here’s the overview:
The Onehunga construction involves a new track formation from Galway St crossing to a new buffer stop, a 55m long two-car platform with the new rail designation, two station commuter access points – at Princes St and Onehunga Mall.
Earlier this week, I revealed the co-ordinated train and bus moves for Onehunga.
A Park and Ride will be constructed late August or early September for the northern section of the site but funding and design issues haven’t been confirmed yet.
Urban development of the former ITM site will be considered in the medium to longer term, after the line gets started.
Platform furniture is being placed on the Te Papapa and Penrose platforms, that are part of the Onehunga line.
