Behind houses between Avondale and New Lynn, rail workers are busy today working on the commissioning of the final 3km section of double track,
It’s another milestone in Auckland’s rail history.
Workers will need more time that just the weekend so to complete the final section of double tracking, so commissioning will continue throughout the following week.
Work around the new Avondale station today
KiwiRail has begun an advertising campaign to warn those on the Western Line that when the line comes into effect, those crossing the track need to remember a train may also be coming in the other direction!

The left hand track is the new one right? It seems incredibly buckled at present - this is then somehow all aligned and level I assume?
Both tracks are new, and after tamping they’ll both look a lot better.
