Video: Manukau Trench

 

Manukau’s rail trench, a Big Brother of New Lynn’s trench, is moving forward fast.

Here’s my video showing what it looks like today:

The tunnel is being built underneath the busy road.

It will be 7m deep at its deepest point and 18m wide at its widest. 47,000 m3 of silty Puketoka sands needed to be excavated in total.

The 300m trench, starts at Lambie Drive and finishes at Davies Ave.

The 2km section of new track will link Davies Ave in Manukau City with the Southern railway line at Puhinui.

The trench walls are complete.

The rail infrastructure will be completed by the end of this year in preparation for passenger services to start next year.

The rail line will be “mostly” double-tracked and will connect with the Southern Line at Puhinui Station.
