Two workers have died in an accident on a Panamanian registered logging ship at Marsden Point tonight.
Police say details are sketchy but a ship employee became trapped in the hold, a second member of the crew became trapped attempting to rescue him and a third went into the hold after them both.
Two men died at the scene and a third was air lifted to Whangarei Hospital in a critical condition.
Police, Department of Labour and Martime Safety teams will be investigating.
