Auckland Harbour Bridge 50th: The Day They Let Us Walk It

opening-of-harbour-bridge-19591

What an amazing day this must have been.  This Sunday 50 years ago, 106,5000 people walked the Auckland Harbour Bridge just before it was officially opened on May 30 1959.

50 years later the Transport Agency has put u[ a 1.8m fence along the Curran St on-ramp and police will be present to stop pedestrians and cyclists from peacefully trying to mark the occasion by walking or cycling across.

How things have changed.
