Airport Route Changes Delayed

Recent bad weather has disrupted NZTA’s plans to make significant changes to a section of Auckland’s SH20 and the Walmsley Road on ramp at Mangere Bridge tomorrow (Sunday) night.

It had planned to open an additional third southbound motorway lane under the Walmsley Road on ramp, and, at the same time, make operational safety improvements to the on ramp itself to prevent drivers using it from “weaving” across the motorway to join SH20A for Auckland International Airport.

These changes are now planned to be introduced sometime next week depending on the weather.

In the meantime, closures of the southbound lanes of the Southwestern Motorway from Walmsley Road to Kirkbride Road (SH20A) and to Massey Road (SH20) will go ahead as planned for five consecutive nights from this Sunday. The closures will operate from 9pm until 5am the next morning. Signposted detours will be in place to help drivers, and those heading towards the airport should allow a little more time for their journeys.

Northbound lanes are not affected by the closure.
