HOP Swap Starts

I noticed the new HOP assistants out and about today at Britomart train station and around the place.
Go-Rider public transport card users on the North Shore have begun swapping out their cards in readiness for the smartcard, HOP.
Kelsey Cameron from West Harbour was among the first Go Rider users to swap out her old card for a brand new HOP card at Constellation station from HOP Helper Hayley.

On Sunday HOP cards with a Snapper logo will be available to use on North Star buses and will replace Go Rider cards.
The rollout will continue in the following weeks on Go West and Waka Pacific buses on May 22 then Metrolink and LINK buses on June 6.
HOP cards were available from retail outlets from Monday and are also on sale at the Constellation and Albany bus station coffee kiosks.

Got mine on Wellesley St West this morning. I wasn’t even using a North Star bus, in fact I had just jumped off my good old regular Metrolink bus and was walking to work. The Hop guy grabbed me as I was walking past (there was no one else at the stop) and asked me if I was a Go Rider user and after 30 secs was back on my way to work armed with a Hop card and brochure and a clipped Go Rider. Too easy.

They have been doing this all week, I know some people who had theirs changed on Monday.

The only problem I can see is that come Monday some people might assume their balance is automatically transfered and then find their hop doesn’t work. Hopefully they will have some temporary go card readers at the major stations as a last resort to keep things flowing.

I tried to transfer my Go Rider balance to Hop at Shore City this morning and the system wasn’t working - they had to manually top it up. That’s not a great start.

    It is so good
I am trying on right now…
It has voices to remind u to tag off
All the seats on North Shore buses has a reminder tag for u….

You can actually have a special line for yourself n tag on n get on the sit without waiting for people who need to pay by cash
    Good start
