Baldwin Ave Upgrade Starts

A start on Baldwin Ave, Mt Albert’s much-needed platform extension and sleeper upgrade began this morning.

Western line trains are not running this weekend for a sleeper upgrade and work around some of the hardware for electrification.

Baldwin Ave’s station is off limits this weekend and will be closed through the Christmas holiday period of rail work so that the work can be completed.

It will be closed for longer than the actual Christmas work - from December 19 to the end of January.

The existing platforms will be demolished and one platform side done at a time.

The West-bound platform on the left of this photo will be done first with an extension towards the camera, enabling the 6-car trains, presently running, to be able to stop there.

Not being able to stop there at the moment, has led to much frustration for locals waiting for a train.

Work also scheduled includes:

  • Rossgrove Tce level crossing upgraded (for this the road will be closed for two days in early January)
  • Leone Tce, Margaret Ave and Doreen Ave accessways upgraded
  • A station fit-out with new lighting, CCTV, PA system, shelters and signage

Good stuff - does that mean all Western Line Stations up to the terminus will be able to take 6-car trains?

@Max Yes, from the end of January
