Fault Delays Closure

Tonight’s planned full closure of SH1 through St Marys Bay in Auckland has been postponed by the NZTA for two weeks.

The closure was to allow a motorway sign gantry for the Victoria Park Tunnel project to be lifted into place near the Fanshawe Street off ramp.

The NZTA’s State Highways Manager for Auckland, Tommy Parker, says the lift was postponed after a faulty weld was detected while the sign was being assembled before its installation.

“The two-week delay will give the project team more time to ensure the gantry can be installed over one night with minimal disruption to nearby residents and to motorway travellers,” says Mr Parker.

But a planned closure tonight of two of the three southbound lanes on the Newmarket Viaduct will still go ahead.
