A man died after being hit by a train at Te Kuiti this morning.
Police say the man was lying on the tracks.
In the early hours of the morning, a driver of a southbound train travelling through Te Kuiti had seen a person laying on the railway tracks.
Police say the driver applied emergency braking systems, but failed to stop in time.

The person suffered multiple injuries, and died instantly.
He hasn’t been identified.
Police at this stage are unable to identify the deceased male and are seeking help from the public.
