New Lynn In Pictures -Part1

New Lynn’s $300m transport project is a real jewel in the crown for Auckland.

It ticks off so many boxes for us - trains, buses together, an underground trench that takes trains off the tracks competing with vehicles near a busy town centre and providing the catalyst for urban renewal.

I have so enjoyed taking photos of the project of the past 2 years and posting them here - hundreds of photos.

Here’s a random selection to remind us of how amazing the challenging construction was and how far we have come.

$300 million? For a trench and a building? How did it cost so much?

  2. rtc says:

That includes all the roading which has been ongoing and is yet to be finished. Only a portion of that was for the rail/bus infrastructure, most goes on the new roads in the area, including a lovely viaduct yet to be built.

It’s really quick shocking what was there before, and actually is what is still at a lot of other stations.

George D - 300million given the ground conditions, staging requirements (due to having to keep both trains and cars running through-out the life of the project), not to mention the size of the project alone. Not actually that bad in fact I’m kind of surprised that Fletchers were able to finish ahead of time, which I assume because of that it would of also been under budget. Remember it was also double tracked at the same time.

That includes heaps of road and town centre work too - not just rail
