Too Much Rush On T2 Changes

An Auckland City Councillor is worried the council is “just going through the motions” with its call for public views on the planned changes to Dominion Rd bus lanes.

We have only until August 1 to provide feedback on the important changes re the T2 lanes.

City Vision’s Glenda Fryer said in an urgent letter to council transport officers that she has had a request from a group of concerned Mt Eden residents for answers to some questions posed by them on the Dominion Road T2 consultation.

I also received a letter in the letterbox as a local resident in the area.  There is no background information sufficient for this to be an ‘informed’ consultation.  It would appear that Council is just ‘going through the motions’, and with respect, this is not good enough for such an important project in our community.

To make this a worthwhile ‘engagement’ with local businesses and residents there is the need for a ’public display’ and information session on the  Council plans for Dominion Road.

“A good local venue would be the Mt Eden War Memorial Hall, and if that is unavailable perhaps the Deaf Society hall in Balmoral Road.

“This ‘engagement’ with the community needs to happen soon with an additional letter informing local residents of the display and information session, and an extension of time for the consultation.”

I suspect the council is trying to just ram this through and will completely ignore the consultation anyway.

The strange thing is that the upgrade isn’t meant to commence until 2012 I think. And I guarantee this is something Auckland Transport CCO kills off as quickly as it can.

    So what’s the point?

What’s the point in pushing one’s agenda?

I am happy they brought this forward before the election. Together with the talk on Tamaki Drive and Remuera Road, we now know what Banks & his C&R fellows REALLY think of public transport.
