Reader Jim Curtis shares his photo of a steam train excursion trip:
“Here is a photo of Steam Incorporated’s Ja1271 on the return trip of the “Eketahuna Express” crossing Midhurst Street at Palmerston North. The trip was from Paekakariki to Masterston and return.

There was drop off at Woodville for races there and at Eketahuna for those wanting to go The Bird Sanctuary at Mount Bruce. It carried on to Masterston where the engine was turned, coaled and watered.”
