Look How Fast Integrated Ticketing Will Be (Videos)

This afternoon’s integrated ticketing deal with Thales brings us the very latest international standard ticketing.

Thales going with its Hong Kong Octopus Card technology, means we will zap through boarding.

Take a look at it in action on a Hong Kong bus:

And you can use it in Hong Kong in a variety of stores including McDonalds and even at Wilson Parking (yes, its there too!)

    That is pretty awesome.

I experienced Octopus in HK less than 3 months ago. I’m still in denial watching the the awkwardly slow boarding on our buses and the manual collections on trains. In addition to the buses, trams, trains and 711s (corner dairies), my list of where I used the Octopus card in Hong Kong would include taxis, ferries, cable car, discounted entries to tourist attractions, parking, bakeries and vending machines. Fast, efficient, cheap and accessible making public transport reliable and relied-on. Please, please don’t stuff this one up, Auckland.

Second vide is not accessible (“private video”). But yeah, looks good. I’m just still jittery that in some way, the Snapper folks will still manage to ruin it.

That’s the attitude the current government has given us…
