DL Locos Arrive Soon

The remaining 14 of KiwiRail’s DL locomotives arrive at Auckland’s Jellicoe Wharf on June 4.

They are on board the Tasman Trader.

The locos will be towed a few days later in convoy to Hamilton’s Te Rapa mechanical depot for commissioning.

Last month NZTA gave KiwiRail the sign-off for its new DL locomotives – so they can now be used on the rail network for full commercial services.

They will be used initially between Mt Maunganui and Kinleith and then used in the services to Kawerau and Murupara and on the lower North Island later in the year.

Lower north Island – I think they are ear-marked to do the Fonterra milk run, Manawatu-Taranaki

Is there’s going to be an extension to the 20 already ordered? KiwiRail still need more
