Loco Engineer Tries To Save Youth
Police are praising a KiwiRail locomotive driver in Wellington who performed CPR on a teenager lying beside the railway tracks close to Rangoon Street in Khandallah last night.
Detective Senior Sergeant Donna Howard of the Wellington CIB says the engineer put on the emergency brakes of the train and went to the assistance of the teenager. Emergency services were then contacted by Kiwi Rail.
The person died at the scene. ”Police would like to thank Kiwi Rail and the locomotive engineer whose actions last night were commendable.”
A post-mortem examination will be carried out later today. Police are not releasing the name of the teenager until all next of kin have been advised.
Police are not seeking anyone else in relation to this death but would like to hear from anyone who may have seen a young male in the Rangoon Street area between 6:30pm and 7:30pm last night.
