Newmarket Viaduct Update

NZTA will be closing one southbound lane of the Newmarket Viaduct at 9pm on Monday night  and a second lane at 10pm. These earlier-than-usual night closures are required for works associated with the completion of Stage 1 of the Newmarket Connection: Viaduct Replacement Project – the opening of a fourth southbound motorway lane in early 2011.

The lane closures will likely cause delays for those travelling south, therefore motorists are advised to allow more time for their journey on Monday night.

The fourth southbound lane from Newmarket to Greenlane is scheduled to open in February.

looks like an absolute jumble there!
when is the next bridge due to be complete?

They haven’t even started lowering down segments of the old one which needs to get out of the way first. I’d say at least one more year minimum before the northbound can open.

@anthony - deconstruction of the old southbound is due to be completed mid-2011. New northbound lanes due to open around Feb-Mar 2012. Full project completion (deconstruct old northbound and full lane widths) by end-2012.
