Photos: Parnell 24-Hr Track Work

Workers are working around the clock this long hot weekend to upgrade the track infrastructure near Mainline Steam, in Parnell, as part of pre-electrification work.

Trains are not running between Britomart and Newmarket.

The workers are installing new turn-outs - which are the connections between the rails which allow trains to switch between tracks.
That offers greater flexibility of train movements.

The work involves the removal of the tracks.

It’s odd to see work being done in the vicinity of the Mainline Steam building in view of the on going discussion about whether the proposed heritage Parnell train station will go ahead there, a decision now in the hands of the new council, Auckland Transport and Kiwirail.
