Pre-Electric Weekend Starts

Labour weekend rail work got underway today even though some train services don’t get replaced by buses until the start of the long weekend.

Signal and pre-electrification work feature highly in the work planned and today some of that was being done along the lines or preparation for it.

Signalling and track work will be done between Britomart and Newmarket at the weekend and today some Western trains had to stop near Kingdon St while workers were on the track.

In fact, along the Western line were new pre-Christmas toys for the tracks including flash new cabinets.

Buses replace trains on the:

Western Line: Britomart to Newmarket
Southern Line: Britomart to Newmarket, and Otahuhu to Papakura
Onehunga Line: Britomart to Newmarket
Eastern Line: Britomart to Papakura (via Glen Innes and Sylvia Park)

Passengers who have free train travel for the Rugby ITM Cup Auckland v Tasman game at Eden Park on Sunday can still travel free but using the bus replacements. Additional train and rail-bus services are being provided for the game and a shuttle bus direct between Britomart and Kingsland will be running as well.
