Slip Taking Time To Clear

It will be Monday before Wellington’s rail services can get back to normal.

As the slip north of Plimmerton is still being cleared, electrified services cannot operate north of Plimmerton at present.

UPDATE: Services on the Paraparaumu line: Tonights 7:30pm, 8:30pm, 9:30pm, 11pm and Sat 1am Wellington to Paraparaumu services are replaced by buses. The 8:35pm service from Paraparaumu to Wellington is replaced by buses and the 9:35pm service from Paraparaumu to Wellington is cancelled

Buses will operate from Wellington to Paraparaumu for the duration of the weekend.

WELLINGTON: More patience required tonight

The Capital Connection service is being replaced by buses this evening due to staffing constraints and the buses will depart from Platform 9.

The 5:12pm service to Upper Hutt has been cancelled to allow the carriages to be used on the Paraparaumu line.  Passengers are asked to catch either the 5:05pm or 5:25pm services instead.

KiwiRail CEO Jim Quinn says they are taking “an understandably cautious approach to running trains around Wellington,” following bad weather yesterday and overnight.

There were been significant delays this morning for peak time services.

The two trains involved in the crash yesterday afternoon caused by a slip north of Plimmerton on the Paraparaumu Line were cleared from the site overnight.

A further slip which occurred during heavy rain yesterday near Muri, further north, will take longer to clear.

A slip on the Johnsonville Line, which cancelled trains on Thursday afternoon and evening, has also been cleared.
