Video: Onehunga Steam Train

Onehunga residents and train enthusiasts greeted the return of trains to Onerhunga this morning after 37 years.

A steam train arrived eventually - the train was from Mainline Steam and organised by the Railway enthusiasts society was delayed because debris on the line near Glenbrook had made it impossible to bring out the carriages that were to be used.

A normal train brought the special guests for the opening - but the steam train finally arrived with Tranz Scenic carriages and was able to take the public on a trip to Penrose and back.

Those seats were in hot demand as hundreds crowded the platform trying to get a ride and enjoying the sight and loud distinctive sounds of an old steam train.
Here are videos of the old steam train arriving and leaving the new Onehunga mall station:

Transport Minster Steven Joyce officially opened the line and station which is at Onehunga Mall.
