Onehunga Opens Sat

In less than a week - Saturday morning-  a steam train will be pulling into the Onehunga Mall platforms to herald the re-establishment of an Onehunga line.

The details of the opening ceremony on Saturday the 18th are here - commuter trains start at 7.12am on the Sunday the 19th.

Here is how Onehunga is looking today.

The plants are growing and looking healthy & all the signs are up.

The main work still being done is the road curbing work and levelling off the park and ride section at the northern side of the platforms.

An exciting week ahead until the red Onehunga signal turns green!

    Hi there,

This is going to be an awesome adventure for me :)
I will be travelling by train once a week (every Saturday) from Onehunga to Papakura. and back
Is there a timetable for the train yet? If so.. where will I be able to get one?

Graham The timetables are here http://www.maxx.co.nz/information/travel-updates/new-train-timetables-and-onehunga-line.html
and a printed copy available at some stations such as Britomart and Newmarket

It’s good the Onehunga platform is numbered so people know which one to use :-)

hopefully there will be more platforms in the future, with it eventually becoming an interchange station perhaps.

Joust, it would be pretty hard to add more platforms / tracks here. And for what - until the airport line comes along (in 5 years if we are extremely lucky, in 15-30 if not), there won’t be any need.

Now a nice idea might be to have a platform with trains on one side, and buses on the other!

What’s happening with the relocation of the bus station from outside the library?
