As you come out of Britomart from just after 7pm tonight, you’ll see an expensive new clock.

Auckland City tonight unveils its $120,000 RWC 2011 countdown clock opposite the Britomart transport centre in QEII square.

The council pictures it like this:

The clock will be unveiled by Auckland city mayor John Banks and International Rugby Board president Bernard Lapasset at 7pm.

Today is one year exactly until the opening of the the event.

There will be a number of events today including an official world record attempt at Eden Park at noon for the most consecutive number of passes of a Rugby ball.

Plans are under way for opening the redeveloped Eden Park following its $240 million makeover due for completion next month.

The finishing touches are being added to the new-look stadium, which includes a six-level, 21,500-seat south stand, as well as a new east stand, transport hub and western concourse.

The completed stadium’s first test will be a league double-header on November 6.
