Onehunga Gets Locked In

The final touches to landscaping at the new Onehunga train station were being done today - and workers felt jubilant as the station looked close to finishing.

Signs were given a final polish and fencing erected.

The temporary park and ride area is fairly much levelled.

Earlier train safety campginer Chris Cairns took local officials on a tour of the level crossings around the Te Papapa train station as KiwiRail showed off the measures taken to ensure safety around the Onehunga line.
As trains have not been through the tracks for so many years, there is concern locals may have become complacent about passing over lines unaware trains are about to actually use them.

During the afternoon, a train was testing out the platform as you can see in photos here and videos here.

  1. Geoff says:

Is that white powder on everything cement to harden the ground?

  2. Jon says:

Probably a lime base to stabilise the surface before the tar goes down?

  3. Carl says:

  4. Joshua says:

Yea I would assume it’s a lime cement stabilizing mix.
