Wellington Delays Update

A messy day for Wellington train commuters.

KiwiRail staff and contractors worked through the night to try and restore regular signalling operations on the Paraparaumu line after planned upgrade work over the weekend in preparation for the Matangi train ran into unexpected complications yesterday.

But there are delays and changes to train services on the Paraparaumu Line today.

Paraparaumu Line trains began running to the usual timetable but express services  stopped at all stations.

But now a decision has been made that buses will replace trains on the Paraparaumu Line today between Wellington and Tawa, until 2:45pm.

Hutt and Johnsonville Line services are running as scheduled.

KiwiRail General Manager Passenger Deb Hume apologised for the inconvenience to Paraparaumu Line passengers.

“Unfortunately there were modest delays to Paraparaumu Line trains this morning and now buses will replace trains between Wellington and Tawa for a time today to allow this work to be completed. We are confident that afternoon peak services will run to schedule.

“We will be updating information available to Paraparaumu Line passengers throughout the day but encourage people to monitor progress. Updates will be provided through our TXT notification system, the Tranz Metro website, MetLink phone line, station information phone line and radio stations.”

Work to upgrade the rail signalling system in preparation for the new Matangi train ran into unexpected complications on Sunday. Specialist signalling engineers had been working 24 hours throughout the weekend and last night to restore regular signalling operations.
