How Long To Change Britomart Lightbulb? Part II!

Remember the “How long does it take to change a lightbulb at Britomart” discussion when a broken down escalator took weeks to fix?

Well, now literally we can find out how long it does take to change and / or clean a lightbulb at Britomart! In fact all lightbulbs!

This structure has been at the end of Britomart’s platform four now for months,

What is it there for? Is it holding up the roof?

No- it’s so workmen can clean the light fittings or change the bulbs high up in the roof above the platform.

They can do the job only between midnight and 4am each night so it’s a long slow job.

At midnight- or after trains stop operating, the workmen can move the structure to the next set of lights.

I look forward to following how many months it takes.

I guess nobody thought of in-roof access to those lights when the mesh was being installed.

I wonder if it’ll be like the harbour bridge: by the time they get to the end, it’ll be time to do the first ones again.

There was a similar issue with the airport in Denver. Turned out it would cost something like $200 per bulb to change the light bulbs - and then only if you did them all at once. If you did them piecemeal it would be tens of thousands.

    Funny? or sad.
